My background is unusual and that’s what makes it useful.
I started my career as assistant to an entrepreneur in London moving on a few years later to manager a law firm in the West End. By my late 20’s, I wanted a change of direction. When an unfortunate accident on the way to work gave me a moment to think, I decided to change everything, started a contract cleaning business to pay my way and took myself off to the University of Southampton where I trained into allied health care acquiring BSc(Hons) and HCPC registration.
After a short period in the NHS I set up my own practice and continued to run that for the following 16 years when a health problem ended my career.
During that time I’d gained various additional qualifications in nutrition, yoga, psychology, counselling and CBT for work. And my love of animals had led me to complete firstly the University of Exeter’s MA in Anthrozoology and then qualification to become a certified equine behaviour specialist with registration. I ran this successfully alongside my healthcare business and had intended a complete career change but unfortunately a health problem put paid to that.
I’m not one to sit on my laurels. While recovering my health and finding new hobbies to replace the loss of horses from my world, I’ve immersed myself in the wonderful world of photographic art, learning from scratch, writing books, creating an online teaching platform and receiving invitations to speak from various camera clubs and even the Royal Photographic Society.
My other previous hobby now profession has been creative writing. Over the years I’ve written for pleasure and to support charities or other organisations. I’ve explore fiction, narrative non fiction and feature writing studying with the London School of Journalism, received two scholarships for Curtis Brown Creative short courses and completed Cornerstones Literary Consultancy’s Edit Your Novel.
I am now rebuilding my work life working with charities in the sectors I am passionate about; health and social care, social justice and animals. I also mentor other creatives and wellness practitioners starting their small businesses and writing non fiction books about their practice while continuing to enjoy teaching photographic art and expanding those skills out to design websites with a creative flair…
